Argentina grows 8.4% in April

Argentine economy has expanded 8.4 per cent in April with respect to the same month of 2006, as Argentine Statistics and Census Institute (INDEC, in its Spanish) disclosed yesterday. Despite slowdown (8 per cent in the first quarter against 8.5 per cent posted on the same period of 2006), economy achieved in April 53 consecutive months of growth.

In this way, the Monthly Economic Activity Estimator (EMAE, in its Spanish acronym) expanded 0.2 per cent in April against March, accumulating, during the first quarter of the year, an 8.1-per cent increase with respect to the same period of 2006.

During April, services were again the most dynamic, which expanded at a faster pace than first quarter's, headed by financial intermediation, wholesale trade and transport and communications sector.
