Rural Society Chairman: "Argentina could increase exports"

Chairman of Argentina's Rural Society (SRA) Luciano Miguens assured Friday the appearance of a "mad cow" case in the US could give Argentina the chance to get access to new meat markets as well as to increase its exports.

The Society Head said "this could be an opportunity as there will be demanding markets against the US that will close its markets. Thus, there will be a meat demand that Argentina, as a producer country, could satisfy in some way."

Miguens denied any "mad cow" case in Argentina as most cows are fed by grass instead of animal flours which are prohibited, and he added "I think we have to make a big effort and eliminate or prohibit the consumption of animal flour as meat and bone flour is the main factor by which the disease is passed."
