30,000 houses to be constructed due to lower rate

This week the government will be able to launch the programme for the construction of 30,000 houses. Due to the recent cut in rates, the deal with bankers and governors was closed and the plan will be carried out immediately. It will be the most important issue when the Cabinet meets at Olivos on Thursday and the starting point for an improvement in the economy's indexes in the short term. Last night, De la Rúa dinned with Chrystian Colombo and told him that he will lead the cabinet's meetings again and that they will be held once a month. Last weekend, De la Rúa met former minister Nicolás Gallo in Chapadmalal , who asked the president to tell him about the most important points in the public works programme. Yesterday, De la Rúa went over the 77 works that are included in the first part of the plan, which will imply investments amounting to $2 billion. He singled out those that can begin right away. Then he spent an hour writing a long document which includes the issues the ministers will be tested on on Thursday. It asks the ministers to forget about elections: "I don't want you to be distracted by elections and you have to understand this. You will have to face the consequences". Green light to public works.
