Today, Erman appears in court for the grotesque weapons' case

There are great expectations about Erman González's (former minister) statement before the judge Jorge Urso on the weapons case.

Many people believe that the magistrate will decide to imprison the former minister of Defence as he did with Emir Yoma.

But González could challenge the judge's alleged decision, in this case, following the example of Cavallo who has avoided, for the time being, complications and subpoenas for having challenged Urso.

The challenge means a procedure, at first, and Urso would have to hand over the case to another magistrate who would or would not reject the request.

Next weekend will be tough for the former minister: apart from his statement before Urso, next Monday he will be examined by judge Speroni on another case.

The reason for that challenge would be "evident enmity", but over and above the concept, the mere request for the removal of the judge will result in the postponement of his declaration today.

This is beneficial for the ex minister who is waiting for the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice, which will issue a court resolution on Monday about the inconvenience of the judges applying the distorted concept of "delinquent association" to politicians, for the mere fact of being part of a cabinet.

The case on weapons, however, seems to spread: the prosecuting attorney, Carlos Stornelli, could suggest the summons of more than one official of the previous administration. For instance, Hugo Anzorreguy was mentioned, since Balza (commander in chief of the army) held that he was not responsible for the intelligent services of the interior.

In the case of Anzorreguy, more than being accused, he would be summoned to explain what the SIDE (State Intelligence Service) knew about this commercial operation and if it had made reports on the issue.

Besides, it is said that Stornelli also investigated the movements of money on the part of the former president Carlos Menem and his brother-in-law, Emir Yoma, during the period related to the weapons' exports.

Another judicial matter: another person involved in another case in which Stornelli also takes part, is Claudia Bello and her team in the Secretariat of the Public Administration: the prosecuting attorney wants to investigate them for alleged irregularities in the concession of advertising about the computing crisis of the year 2000.

Yesterday, Stornelli met Monsignor Estanislao Karlic, most probably due to a statement delivered by the Church, which considered Carlos Menem's summons "untimely".

According to the prosecuting attorney, he does not intend to "politicise" the weapons' case and the measures suggested by the judge are the result of the evolution of the proceedings, the statements of the accused, Sarlenga, and the purpose of the delinquent association.

Besides Karlic and other prelates, a few days ago Stornelli talked to Mario Rotundo, a man close to Monsignor Ubaldo Calabressi some time ago and Zulema Menem (Menem's ex wife), and Carlos Menem's enemy.

Apparently, this meeting would be related to the future appearance in court of Zulema Yoma, also about the weapons' case.
