Health and Social Welfare's merger makes progress

Aldo Neri, Health Minister during Alfonsín's administration, will be the UCR's representative of the Social Welfare Ministry headed as from today by Marcos Makón, who is replacing the unsuccessful Graciela Fernández Meijide.

That appointment is the prelude to the merger of two ministries, Health and Social Welfare, the government is planning as part of the program to reduce spending.

Within 90 days, those two ministries will have to pass on its main functions to the new office to be administered by Makón, who will be accompanied by the deputy José Vitar and the medical doctor Neri.

The other ministries mentioned in the project of merger the government is studying, according to the first report issued by López Murphy to President De La Rúa, Colombo (Cabinet Chief), Giavarini (Chancellor), Bullrich (Labour), are Education and Justice and a great part of Labour, whose aid programs to the poor (Work Plans and others) would be added by Makón (that is, Chacho Alvarez) to the new office and to take advantage of them in the election campaign.
